  • Custom UK Online Journals
  • Custom UK Online Reference

Libraries can select one or more of the components, all of which can be cross-searched through Thomson Gale PowerSearch®, our new technology platform.

Thomson Gale PowerSearch
PowerSearch provides a simple yet sophisticated solution for accessing online periodical and reference information in a single system.

When a search is conducted, navigation is simplified with a “breadcrumb trail” that shows the path the search has taken, allowing the user to return easily to a previous step. Any page can be accessed quickly using tabs found on the navigation bar directly below the title banner. Helpful toolbar buttons, such as Dictionary, Title Lists and Help, are available at the top of every page.

Features of PowerSearch include:

  • Tabbed results for easy identification
  • Basic, Subject Guide, Publication or Advanced Search options
  • Full text searching
  • On-demand content translation (into Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Portuguese)
  • On-demand interface translation (English, Spanish or French)
  • Increased font size, to allow for easier reading
  • Authentication by IP validation
  • Unlimited site licence access to maximise return on investment
  • Library branding
  • Links to library holdings
  • 24/7 remote access Ability to e-mail and print articles

Thomson Gale PowerSearch helps users select the database modules that are most appropriate to include in a cross-search by providing an alphabetical listing of databases along with a description of each one. Users search with the method that’s easiest for them – by entering keywords, journal or newspaper titles, using pre-defined subject terms or constructing complex search queries using Boolean logic. The database from which each document is found appears as part of the search results.

Provide your users with a sophisticated yet simple solution for cross-searching Newspapers, Journals and Reference content in one easy process.

Infomarks
The InfoMarks technology included in Custom UK Online allows pre-determined searches to be saved and bookmarked as Persistent Uniform Resource Locators (PURLs). These can be cut and pasted into e-mail and Web applications or Intranet pages. InfoMarks can be embedded into your library’s OPAC giving users instant access to journals and reference materials. Users are enabled to keep track of key areas of interest without re-executing the same search every time. Librarians can create reading lists with links to key titles or articles that may be of local interest.
