- Metadata is derived from the information found in either MaRC records or directly from the Newspaper images. Source information such as Title, Publication Dates, Frequency, etc. are captured and used for search and display.
- Each article is zoned so that the user can search and display individual articles as well as full pages.
- Each article is assigned a category (News, Entertainment, Cartoon, etc) to allow users to search and filter on specific article types.
- All text of the articles are captured via OCR to allow for full text searching.
- Gale’s Persistent URL technology – InfoMarks – is already familiar to the community. This allows the user to mark search results, article images and page images and save them as perpetual links. Static links are also available via the Marc records so that online newspapers can be linked to directly from a users Opac.
- Federated search is not currently part of the current Newspaper platform but it is planned to be added at a later date.
